Katowice – the Silesian voivodeship capital is situated in the southern part of the country. The Wanda hill is the highest point in the entire city. It is situated in the Murcki Katowice district and reaches as high as 350 meters. The oldest monument in the city is XVI century st. Michael Archangel (sw. Michal Archaniol) wooden church. Tourist attractions – strictly connected with the Katowice architecture – are two palaces: Goldstein Palace and XIX century old palace situated in the Załęże district. The city is an important, on a national scale, culture centre where many museum, cinemas, art galleries, theatres as well as Silesian Philharmonics are situated. Katowice can boast itself with frequently organised events. The most popular are: Rawa Blues Festival, Metalmania, Mayday Festival or New Music Festival. Characteristic building strongly associated with the city is the Katowice Spodek. The venue attracts many music fans (and not only) that come here from abroad. In the city you may spot a 35-meter high parachute tower. It used to be a training tower for the parachuters in the previous century.
